What exactly is Gossip Grill?
Gossip Grill is one of the best LGBTQ+ bars and restaurants in San Diego β a world-famous, vibrant lesbian bar and restaurant proudly serving women and the queer community since 2009. Located in Hillcrest, we’re a safe, inclusive, high-energy space featuring femme-forward art, a heated outdoor patio with a fire pit, and a lively dance floor. As one of fewer than 40 lesbian bars remaining in the United States, we’re more than a night out β we’re a community institution.
Where are you located?
You can find us right in the heart of Hillcrest at 1440 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103 (near Richmond Street). As Hillcrest’s premier queer bar and restaurant, we’re one of the most recognized destinations for LGBTQ+ nightlife in the neighborhood.

What are your operating hours?
We’re open 7 days a week β one of the only lesbian bars and restaurants in San Diego that offers both daytime dining and late-night nightlife every day.
- Monday & Tuesday: 2:00 PM β 8:00 PM
- Wednesday & Thursday: 2:00 PM β 12:00 AM
- Friday: 2:00 PM β 2:00 AM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM β 2:00 AM
- Sunday: 10:00 AM β 12:00 AM
Is there a cover charge?
During normal restaurant hours and weeknights, there is no cover charge. On Friday and Saturday nights (usually starting around 9:00 PM), during special holiday weekends like San Diego Pride, or for specific ticketed events, a cover charge may apply.
Is Gossip Grill all-ages or 21+?
During the day for lunch and weekend brunch, we’re family-friendly! As the night progresses and the nightclub vibe kicks in, we transition to 21+ only. As the best bar and restaurant in Hillcrest for the queer community, we want to make sure every visit β day or night β feels right for the occasion. Bring a valid ID!

We serve modern American comfort food β think delicious burgers, shared appetizers, fresh salads, and flatbreads β alongside a full bar packed with signature cocktails, local beers, and great wine. As a full-service queer bar and restaurant in San Diego, we’re proud to offer a complete dining and drinking experience under one roof, any day of the week.
Do you offer happy hour?
Yes! We offer excellent happy hour drink and bite specials during the week. As the best bar in Hillcrest for after-work hangs, our heated patio is the perfect place to catch up with friends before the evening gets started.
Do you host special events or themed nights?
Absolutely. Gossip Grill is San Diego’s home for LGBTQ+ nightlife β from weekend brunches and trivia nights to top queer DJs, dancing, and viewing parties. Logistics & Amenities
Do you accept reservations?
We generally operate on a first-come, first-served basis for casual dining and patio seating. For large parties, special celebrations, or VIP table requests for nightlife, please contact us directly through our website ahead of time.
What is the dress code?
Casual and expressive! Wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to dance.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes! Our year-round heated outdoor patio with a fire pit is one of our guests’ favorite features β and one of the things that makes Gossip Grill the best bar and restaurant in Hillcrest for long evenings with good company.
Where can I park?
Street parking is available along University Ave and surrounding side streets, though it can get busy in Hillcrest on weekends. There are also several paid public parking lots within walking distance. Ride-sharing is highly recommended if you plan on drinking!
